Cyprus motor registrations drop for fourth year

Registrations of motor vehicles marked their fourth year of decline in 2012, falling by 28.8% to 25,829 in January – December 2012, from 36,264 vehicles in the same period of 2011.
Registrations of private saloon cars in this period amounted to 19,443, compared with 26,409 in January-December 2011, thus marking a fall of 26.4%.
Of these, 10,123 vehicles were new and 9,320 used cars.
Registrations of goods conveyance vehicles decreased by 45.2% to 2,517 in 2012, compared with 4,590 in January-December 2011.
Light goods vehicles decreased by 46.0% to 2,083 in 2012, from 3,854 in January-December 2011.
Heavy goods vehicles decreased by 47.4% to 299 in January-December 2012, from 568 in January-December 2011.
Road tractors (units of trailers) decreased by 19.6% to 135 in January-December 2012, from 168 in January-December 2011.
Registrations of mopeds of less than 50cc fell by 40.9% to 264 in January-December 2012, compared with 447 in January-December 2011.
Registrations of mechanised cycles of more than 50cc decreased by 17.9% to 2,074 in 2012, compared with 2,527 in January-December 2011.
