Cyprus LFS unemployment breaches 50,000

The unemployment rate according to the quarterly labour force survey climbed to 12.1% in the third quarter of 2012, while the total recorded breached 50,000.
Total employment amounted to 389.0 thousand (males 205.0 thousand and females 184.1 thousand) while the number of unemployed persons to 53.4 thousand (males 28.8 thousand and females 24.6 thousand).
The employment rate for persons aged 20-64 was 70.0% (males 76.3% and females 64.2%) recording a decrease from the previous quarter of 2012.
The unemployment rate amounted to 12.1% of the labour force (males 12.3% and females 11.8%) recording an increase from 11.3% recorded in the previous quarter of 2012.
In the same quarter of 2011 then rate was 7.8%.
The unemployment rate for young persons aged 15-24 amounted to 26.4% of the labour force of the same age group. In the same quarter of 2011 it was 22.2%.
