Tour operators from Hong Kong to visit Cyprus in March 2013

Tour operators from Hong Kong are expected to visit Cyprus in March 2013 to have contacts with local tour operators, hoteliers and other stakeholders, paving the way for tourist arrivals from this Asian area latter in autumn.

According to a Cyprus Tourism Organization press release, the President of CTO Alekos Orountiotis and a delegation visited recently mainland China and Hong Kong, aiming to boost tourism from the region.
While in China, CTO and the Cyprus Embassy organized a forum with the participation of tour operators, business people and journalist, who were briefed on Cyprus as a tourist destination. More agreements were signed with Chinese tour operators, while in Beijing.

Speaking on Monday to the Press, Orountiotis also said that the CTO signed an agreement to sponsor a beauty contest and a television series, to be filmed in Cyprus, aiming to raise awareness among Chinese tourists.
“Our aim initially is to open up to the Chinese market and reach, in the long term, 100 thousand Chinese tourists of higher income”, Orountiotis said.

He added that the delegation also had contacts with Chinese business people over possible investments in hotel units, theme parks and casinos in Cyprus. Contacts were also made with a major airliner concerning flights during the October-June period.
