Cyprus services turnover mixed in July-Sep

Turnover among the main private-sector services was mixed in July-September, with tourism outperforming the rest.
Turnover at current prices in the accommodation and food service activities rose by 8.2% over the same period of the previous year.
A positive performance was also recorded by information and communication, where turnover was up by 0.8%.
However, signs that the financial crisis is finally taking its toll on the lawyers and accountants came from a 1.8% year on year decline in professional, scientific and technical activities.
Administrative and support activities was hit even harder with a decrease of 6.1%.
Turnover of a sector should not be confused with real (inflation-adjusted) growth in value-added which constitute part of the national accounts and GDP.
For the first none months of the year, turnover for accommodation and food service activities rose by 4.2%, for information and communication 3.2%, for professional, scientific and technical activities 2.3%.
Administrative and support service activities recorded a decrease of 1.0%.
In the transport sector, turnover fell by 11.1% compared with the same period of the previous year in January – September 2012.
Land transport was down 2.1%, water transport down 28.0%, air transport down 18.5% and postal and courier activities down 3.6%.
