CYPRUS: CB Governor and FinMin at IMF and World Bank meeting in Tokyo

Minister of Finance Vassos Shiarly and Governor of the Central Bank Panicos Demetriades are participating in the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, which is taking place in Tokyo, from October 9 to 14.

Shiarly departed for Tokyo on October 10, after a Cabinet meeting, while Demetriades has been there since October 9, to attend the meeting of Commonwealth countries Central Bank Governors.

During the IMF and World Bank meeting, Shiarly and Demetriades will have the opportunity to meet with officials from member states.

The annual meeting attract central bankers, ministers of finance and development, private sector officers and academics, who discuss issues of mutual interest, such as international financial prospects, the eradication of poverty, economic growth, and the effectiveness of aid.

Furthermore, seminars, regional briefings, press conferences and other events focusing on the global economy, international developments and the world financial system, will be held on the sidelines of the meeting.
