The Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (Cyta), the major telecommunications provider on the island, with half a century’s presence, has assured that it will provide efficient services during the six-month Cyprus EU Presidency.
These include the launch and maintenance of the Presidency website, ensuring its security.
Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, Cyta’s Chairman Stathis Kittis noted that the organization has prepared to deal with any acts of sabotage or attacks by hackers.
He acknowledged however that it is not possible to ensure absolute internet security and safety, adding that cyta personnel is well trained in this field to deal with any eventuality.
Kittis said that Cyta’s preparations started long time ago and there is cooperation and coordination with the Secretariat of the Cyprus Presidency in order to accommodate all the needs of the employees, journalists, visitors and officials who will be in Cyprus for the Presidency.
Cyta is also providing facilities for teleconferences to take place at the Presidential Palace and the Filoxenia Conference Center, which will host all the meetings and press conferences during the next six months.
Furthermore, a number of smart phones and computers were given to the Secretariat staff and the Presidency volunteers for the EU needs. Cyta has also upgraded its internet capacity to meet increased demand during the Presidency.
Speaking during the press conference, the Government Spokesman expressed his confidence that the Cyprus Presidency will be a successful one and this success will reflect on everybody.
He stressed that Cyta could not have been absent in this great challenge for the Cyprus Republic and its assistance is highly valued.
Stephanou commended the hard work civil servants are putting into the joint effort for a successful Presidency.
He also said the Presidency website plays a pivotal role in the promotion of the Presidency and in providing reliable information.
Cyprus, an EU member since May 2004, will assume the six monthly rotating Presidency of the Council of the EU on July 1, 2012.
