Cyprus motor regs drop 17.5% y/y in Jan-Sep

Only small mopeds increase

Registrations of motor vehicles in the first nine months of 2011 decreased by 17.5% compared with the year earlier, to 28,073 in January – September 2011, down from 34,023 vehicles in the same period of 2010.
Registrations of private saloon cars fell to 19,992 from 23,979 in January-September 2010, recording a decrease of 16.6%.
Out of the total private saloon cars registered, 9,998 vehicles were new and 9,994 vehicles were used cars.
Registrations of goods conveyance vehicles declined by 33.5% to 3,513 in 2011 compared with 5,282 in 2010.
Light goods vehicles registrations decreased by 34.3% to 2,900 from 4,417 in 2010.
Registrations of heavy goods vehicles fell by 28.1% to 475 in January-September 2011 from 661 in the same period of 2010.
Road tractors (of trailers) decreased by 32.4% to 138 in January-September 2011 from 204 in January-September 2010.
Registrations of mopeds of less than 50 cc, which are popular with migrants, increased by 4.9% to 385 in January-September 2011 compared with 367 in January-September 2010.
But bigger bikes fell. Registrations of mechanised cycles over more than 50 cc decreased by 12.7% to 2,089 in 2011, compared with 2,393 in January-September 2010.
