Finance Minister Kikis Kazamias has said that by supporting the bank system, the real economy of Cyprus and all other European Union countries is reinforced.

In statements at Larnaca Airport, after returning from Brussels, and invited to comment on concerns regarding consequences of the financial crisis on Cypriot banks, Kazamias noted that “the obvious concerns in Cyprus are not different from those expressed for financial markets and the bank systems in all Eurozone countries.”

He said he was optimistic and certain that the right solutions will be given because this is required for the benefit of the bank system.

Invited to say if there is optimism regarding the banks in Cyprus, Kazamias said that there is no other option and that is why everyone’s efforts must concentrate towards this direction.

Kazamias also noted that he will attend a Eurozone meeting on Wednesday and after that the ECOFING meeting, prior to the European Council to be held on Wednesday afternoon.

“Therefore what took place during the weekend (at the European Council) will continue on Wednesday when the heads of states will take their decisions,” he noted.

He described the Eurogroup decision about the Greek program and the sixth installment as the right one, noting that it will end the prevailing nervousness, noting that “there is determination to solve the problem ones and for all.” Kazamias also stressed Cyprus’ solidarity with Greece
