Cyprus unemployment jumps 3.3% in seasonally adjusted terms

The relentless rise in unemployment continues, with the number of unemployed people registered at District Labour Offices rising in seasonally adjusted terms by 3.3% in May.
The absolute number of registered unemployed was 26,050, an increase of 5,467, or 26.6% compared with May 2010.
The increase compared with the previous year was mainly in wholesale and retail trade (up 1,371), construction (924), accommodation and food service activities (576), manufacturing (443), transportation and storage (398) and education (389).
Newcomers to the labour market registering as unemployed rose 1,157.
The Statistical Service does not produce a registered unemployment rate.
