Cyprus tourism leaps 12.7% in February

Tourism arrivals leapt in February after a decrease in January, according to the latest figures from the Statistical Service’s Passengers’ Survey.
Arrivals of tourists rose by 12.7% to 62,294 in February 2011 compared with 55,250 in February 2010.
The German market was the strongest, with increase of 95.6%, from 4,514 in February 2010 to 8,830 in February 2011.
Arrivals from Russia, Cyprus’s second largest market rose by 33.3% in February.
There was even an increase of 8.3% from recession-ridden Greece (from 7,362 to 7,975 this year).
By contrast, a decrease of 11.7% was recorded in tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom, the largest market.
Arrivals from the UK fell to 22,095 in February 2011 from 25,013 in February 2010).
For the period January – February 2011 arrivals of tourists totalled 106,736 compared with 101,202 in the corresponding period of 2010, recording an increase of 5.5%.
