Cyprus building permits down 0.6% in Jan-Sep

The Statistical Service has announced that the number of building permits authorised by the municipal authorities and the district administration offices during September 2010 stood at 717.
The total value of these permits reached EUR 215.8 million and the total area 209.9 thousand square metres.
These building permits provided for the construction of 903 dwelling units.
During the period January -September 2010, 6,635 building permits were issued, registering a decrease of 0.6% compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.
The total value of these permits decreased by 6.9% and the total area decreased by 6.6%.
Τhe number of dwelling units recorded a decrease of 12.4%.
Building permits constitute a leading indicator of future activity in the construction sector.
