September unemployment at same levels as before

The number of unemployed persons, registered at Cyprus District Labour Offices on the last day of September 2010, reached 20.671 persons, according to the Statistical Service.

Based on the seasonally adjusted data that shows the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for September 2010 remained at the same level compared to the previous month and reached 23.538 persons.

In comparison with September 2009, an increase of 3.053 persons or 17,3% was recorded, which was mainly observed in the sectors of trade (an increase of 661 unemployed persons), construction (an increase of 372), manufacturing (an increase of 364), hotels and restaurants (an increase of 343), other service activities (an increase of 205), real estate and business activities (an increase of 199), as well as to newcomers in the labour market where an increase of 661 unemployed persons was recorded.
