Medvedev’s visit to Cyprus “historic”, says Minister

A two-day state visit to Cyprus by the Russian President is one of historic importance, said here today Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Paschalides, adding that right now Russia is one of Cyprus’ most important strategic partners in all sectors.

According to an official announcement, Paschalides who was replying to journalists’ questions regarding the upcoming visit of Dmitri Medvedev to Cyprus on Wednesday and Thursday noted that he is due to sign three agreements during the visit.

Referring to the agreements, he said one will be about tourism, effectively upgrading and enriching the current agreement between the two countries, thus giving momentum to efforts to increase the tourist influx from Russia.

The second agreement, he said, will be of a commercial nature, aiming to improve trade relations between the two countries, whereas the third agreement will be about trademarks and patents.

The Minister expressed certainty that an agreement on avoiding double taxation will also be signed during the Russian President’s visit, noting that this will be an extremely important agreement which will encourage even greater investments from Russia.
