Registrations of motor vehicles dropped by 16.8% over the year earlier in August, bringing the cumulative decline for the year to 15.7%.
In January – August 30,274 vehicles were registered, compared with 35,921 in January – August 2009.
However, the Cypriot love affair with the new meant that registrations of new cars fared less badly than those of used cars.
Registrations of new cars fell by 9.1% in the first eight months of the year to 15,344, while registrations of used cars fell by 21.1% to 14,930.
Registrations of private saloon cars decreased by 17.3% in the same period to 21,262 from 25,697 in January – August 2009. FM
