Travel abroad from Cyprus fell in April, probably as a result of delayed and cancelled flights as a result of ash from an Icelandic volcano.
According to the Statistical Service, 91,737 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in April 2010, marking a fall of 10.7% compared with the 102,733 recorded in the corresponding month of 2009.
In April 2010 there was a decrease of 15.9% in the number trips of residents to Greece (31,536 in April 2010 compared with 37,480 in April 2009) and a 18.9% fall in trips to the UK (19,142 compared with 23,590 last year).
However, Russia, which is now Cyprus’ second largest incoming market for tourists, saw trips abroad rise by 75%.
