Iran welcomes developments in Cyprus issue

 Iran remains seized with the Cyprus problem as it is important for all Cypriots and has important affects on the region, Iran's Ambassador in Nicosia Ali Reza Bigdeli has said during an official reception to mark the 31st anniversary since the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

Bigdeli welcomed developments in the issue after the election of Cyprus President Demetris Christofias, and expressed the belief that the responsibility to find a solution lies first and foremost with the Cypriots themselves.

The Iranian Ambassador also stressed the good atmosphere of cooperation and cultural affinity between Iran and Cyprus, pointing out that the two countries are linked together by bonds of friendship, in which President Christofias has played a significant role.

He noted that Iran and Cyprus have mutual investment opportunities in energy, industry, agriculture, tourism, education, research and real estate. He added that by signing essential documents like agreement on the promotion and encouragement of mutual investment, the two countries have paved the way for the private sector to follow suit.

President of the Republic Demetris Christofias, Cypriot Ministers, members of Parliament, Ambassadors and other officials attended the reception.
