Cyta reports 1.2 mln in first hour of 2010

Fewer SMS messages of well wishes were sent over the new year period than the record number during the Christmas period, according to state-owned telco Cyta.
The total number New Year wishes from Cytamobile-Vodafone users between 8pm on New Year’s eve and 12 noon on Saturday, January 2, reached 11.42 mln, compared with 13.5 mln over the Christmas period.
On New Year’s day, the total SMS messages sent by Cytamobile-Vodafone subscribers reached 7.7 mln, compared to the average of 4.3 mln on any other day, while during the first hour of the New Year, the number of messages totaled 1.2 mln, or 333 SMS per second.
The peak transmission was recorded at 9.52 minutes past midnight on New Year’s day with 1,030 SMS. The highest rate of messages was recorded at 11:06.32 on Christmas Day, when it peaked at 465 SMS per second.
