Cyprus retail sales down in September

Latest figures show that the turnover volume index of retail trade excluding automotive fuel in Cyprus fell by 6.7% in September, when compared with September 2008.
Between August and September 2009 the index fell by 1.1%. The Index decreased by 8,4 units or 6,7% compared to September 2008.
In the period January-September 2009 the volume index recorded a decrease of 3.0% compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
According to provisional data for October, the turnover volume index for October increased by 0.4% between September and October.
For the period January-October 2009 the Index is provisionally estimated to have decreased by 3.1% compared to the corresponding period of 2008.

Meanwhile, in value terms, the turnover value index of retail trade excluding automotive fuel rose by 0.9% compared to August 2009 but fell by 8.7% compared to September 2008.
For the period January-September 2009 the value index recorded a decrease of 2.2% compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
According to provisional estimates for October, the value index was up 3.0% compared with the previous month in October.
For the period January-October 2009 the value index is provisionally estimated to have a decrease of 2.6% compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
