The Energy, Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC) of The Cyprus Institute is hosting an international conference on “Energy, Water and Climate Change in the Mediterranean and the Middle East” on January 11-15, 2010.
The conference brings together distinguished scientists, primary stakeholders, policy makers and high-level officials to discuss the present and emerging challenges posed by climate change in the Mediterranean and the Middle East. “This region, being exceptionally vulnerable to climate change, requires cooperative management strategies in order to address its economical and societal consequences,” conference chair Jos Lelieveld of The Cyprus Institute/ Max Planck Institut Mainz said in an announcement.
The conference will contribute to these needs by:
• discussing the state-of-knowledge of climate change and its challenges;
• setting the stage for cooperative strategies to cope with climate change impacts;
• discussing energy and water policies and evaluating new concepts;
• considering sustainable strategies and effective decision making
The conference starts on the evening of Monday, January 11, with a public opening ceremony followed by a welcome reception. The actual conference programme starts on Tuesday, January 12 and end on Friday, January 15.
