Cyprus trade deficit shrinks in first eight months

On the basis of preliminary estimates for foreign trade in September 2009, total imports/ arrivals reached EUR 481.2 mln, of which EUR 328.0 mln were arrivals from other member states of the EU and EUR 153.2 mln imports from third countries.
Total exports/dispatches amounted to EUR 71.8 mln, of which EUR 42.4 mln were dispatches to other member states of the EU and EUR 29.4 mln exports to third countries.
The preliminary trade deficit was therefore EUR 409.4 mln.
According to revised data for August, total imports/arrivals in January-August 2009 amounted to EUR 3,707.5 mln, compared with EUR 4,962.7 mln in January-August 2008.
Total imports cover imports from third countries and arrivals from other member states.
Total exports/dispatches in January-August 2009 amounted to EUR 634.0 mln compared with EUR 807.1 mln in January-August 2008.
The trade deficit shrank to EUR 3,073.5 mln in January-August 2009 compared with EUR 4,155.6 mln in January-August 2008.
