Cyprus motor registrations drop steeply in Jan-Sep

The latest data from the Statistical Service show that there was a steep decline in motor vehicle registrations in the first nine months of 2009.
Total registrations of motor vehicles during the first nine months of 2009 decreased by 25.7% to 40,051 from 53,877 vehicles in the same period of 2008.
Private saloon cars decreased to 28,855 from 38,837 in January – September 2008, i.e. there was a decrease of 25.7%.
Of the total private saloon cars, 12,155 vehicles or 42.1% were new and 16,700 vehicles or 57.9 % were used vehicles.
Goods conveyance vehicles decreased by 18.6% to 5,468 in 2009, compared to 6,720 in 2008.
Light goods vehicles decreased by 16.5% to 4,303, from 5,155 in January- September 2008.
Heavy goods vehicles decreased by 25.6% to 1,165 in January-September 2009, from 1,565 in 2008.
Mechanised cycles decreased by 24.9% to 3,775 in 2009, compared to 5,028 in January -September 2008.
