Sales of goods from Turkish Cypriots to Greek Cypriots across the Green Line that divides Cyprus reached EUR 4.1 mln in January-July, according to the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce.
This marked a rise of 4.7% compared with the same period of 2008, when sales of EUR 3.9 mln were recorded.
The largest five categories accounted for 80% of all sales. They were fruit and vegetables, dominated by potatoes (EUR 1.3 mln sales); articles of stone, dominated by building stone (EUR 724,580); plastics (EUR 500,168); metals (EUR 407,415) and furniture (EUR 340,980).
As the acquis communautaire is suspended in northern part of Cyprus, sales from north to south across the Green Line are governed by the EU’s Green Line regulation 866/2004.
