Opap Cyprus chairman Christos Hadjiemmanouil said that sponsorship is part of the gaming giant’s corporate social responsibility, with donations and aid given to sports, culture, education, the environment and welfare groups.
Opap Cyprus sponsors the national football team, provides aid to Cypriot Olympic athletes and supports refugee clubs, cultural events, health and education projects. It also sent 200,000 euros in aid to the victims of the 2007 fires in Greece.
Total gaming income in 2007 reached a record 127.47 mln euros, of which 11.7 mln was returned to the government of Cyprus in direct contributions.
Hadjiemmanouil recently presented Opap’s new corporate image that highlights the new motto for its corporate social responsibility programme.
The Opap chairman said that all 5,000 outlets in Greece are currently undergoing this image change with a general facelift that will include more functional areas for punters. Cyprus is the launch venue for the facelift programme which will begin with the 159 Opap franchise outlets on the island.
“Our efforts have a commercial as well as social aspect,” he said, adding that the aim is to make the outlets more friendly to the public.
