Etherio, “nature’s bio store” that opened on Nicosia’s busy Makarios Avenue in December 2007, is enjoying rapid success among health-conscious consumers and will expand its operations to see a total of seven stores in the capital, in Limassol and Larnaca by the end of the year.
Annie Leventi, manager of the flagship store in Nicosia, said that the company already operates two Etherio Express outlets in Nicosia, with plans to open a large store within Limassol’s new Tiffany Mall soon, an Express store in Limassol next month and two more Express outlets by the end of the year, one in Nicosia and one in Larnaca.
Leventi said that the main store currently stocks 4,500 items of fresh, packed and bottled organic food, both local and imported, all of which are used as ingredients in the pilot in-store kitchen and pizzeria that operates daily for eat-in or take-away until 4pm.
She explained that the relatively higher cost of some products is due to the production method, as opposed to the industrialised process used for the conventional non-organic food.
“The health benefits to the consumer far outweigh the cost factor, which is constantly reduced as consumers increasingly prefer organic products,” Leventi added.
The majority of fresh fruit and vegetables at Etherio are from their own farms, as well as other organic farmers in Cyprus, as well as imports from Greece and Italy.
The most popular products are the Green Life dairy products, in particular the organic halloumi, goat cheese, yoghurt and the kefir drink that helps with digestion. Other goods in demand are the pastry and sweets, as well as cereals, while the store also has organic cotton clothing and bamboo products. Distribution and delivery is handled by a small fleet of zippy electric cars.
