International Historic Car Rally in Cyprus starts on Friday

The Association of Friends of Historic and Old Cars of Cyprus (FIPA) has announced the final arrangements of the 21st International Historic Car Rally which is due to take place from the 29th to the 31st May 2009, according to the FIVA (FEDERATION INTERNATIONALE VEHICULES ANCIEN) Sporting Calendar 2009.

According to a press release issued by the Association, the route is planned to cover a distance of approximately 600 km. The start will be given from Nicosia on Friday 29th May at 10:00am at the premises of Cyprus Premium Automobiles Ltd, 7 Larnaca Avenue, Nicosia towards Larnaka (Finikoudes), Klavdia, Pyrga, Kornos, Kataliondas, Ayii Vavatsinias, Akapnou, Arakapas, Akrounda, Yermasoyia, Limassol and includes an overnight stay at Elias Beach Hotel.

The second leg will start at 08:30am from Elias Beach Hotel Limassol on Saturday and will proceed through Asomatos, Kolossi, Ypsonas, Ayios Therapon, Pera Pedi, Mandria, Omodhos, Malia, Pano Archimandrita, Kouklia, Ahelia, Paphos, Mesoyi, Stroumbi, Yiolou
for lunch at the Kouyiouka Restaurant and then through Kritou Terra, Polis, Kathikas to Paphos for overnight stay at the Hotel AZIA.

The third and last leg will start at 09:00am from AZIA Hotel on Sunday and will move towards Nicoclia, Stavrokonnou, Kelokedara, Salamiou, Arminou, Filousa, Pretori, Ayios Nicolaos, Gephyri tou Tzelefou, Kaminaria, Lemythou, Prodromos, Ayios Nicolaos, Kakopetria, Kato Koutrafas, Nikitari, Asinou for lunch at Farviotissa Restaurant and from there to Vyzakia, Astromeritis, Akaki, Kokkinotrimithia and finish in Nicosia Municipality at 6:00pm. The prize giving ceremony will follow at 8:00pm.

The Organizing Committee has decided, according to article 4.3 of the Regulations, to increase the number of entries from 80 to 85. Additionally, the Committee has decided, to combine Categories D + E, with the provision that the vehicles will compete at the speed relating to their category.
