Cypriot and Czech businesspeople singed on Wednesday a Memorandum of Understanding for the promotion of cooperation between the two countries.

The signing took place during a ceremony held in the Parliament of the Czech Republic in Prague, in the presence of the Czech Chamber of Deputies Speaker Miroslav Vlcek, the Presidents of Cyprus-Czech Business Association Vakis Loizou and President of the Czecho-Cyprus Business Association Jirzi Sebek.

Speaking to CNA, Vlcek described the signing of the MoU as the culmination of the close cooperation between the two countries in the business sector, recalling that the foundation stone for the signing of the MoU was laid during his visit to Cyprus last November.

Vlcek expressed hope that the MoU would prove beneficial for both the Czech Republic and Cyprus.

Cyprus' Ambassador to the Czech Republic Achilleas Antoniades described Vlcek as a ''true friend of Cyprus'' and expressed his gratitude for Vlcek's initiative with regard to the cooperation of the two Associations.

The MoU was signed after a meeting organised by Czecho-Cypriot business forum entitled ''Cyprus: an international commercial and financial centre,'' attended by representatives of 150 Czech businesses.
