The leadership of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEVE) has expressed to Syrian Minister of Economy and Commerce Amer Husni Lutfi the interest for Cypriot investments in Syria and especially the promotion of the participation of a Cypriot joint venture in a large tourist development in coastal Latakia worth 18 billion EUR.

The cooperation between Cyprus and Syria was discussed during a meeting of the leadership of KEVE and the Cyprus-Syria Business Association with Lutfi and Syria's Ambassador in Nicosia Nader Nader.

According to a press release, KEVE expressed Cyprus' interest in further developing and expanding trade relations and general economic cooperation with neighbouring countries, including Syria, and acting as a bridge for the cooperation of businesses from neighbouring countries with the EU.

Lutfi referred to the reforms promoted in the Syrian economy and the opening to foreign investments, as well as the projects planned and the interest to attract Cypriot investments.

Both sides agreed to exchange information and encourage businesspeople to take advantage of the prospects opening for bilateral cooperation.
