Etihad Airways became the first airline in the world to win five World Travel Awards in a single ceremony. The Abu Dhabi-based airline has so far racked up 17 World Travel Awards since it took to the skies in November 2003.
It scooped the leading airline, leading first class, leading airline lounge, leading airline website and leading international marketing campaign at the 2009 World Travel Awards Middle East ceremony held in Dubai. Votes for the awards were cast by 170,000 travel industry professionals, including more than 110,000 travel agents.
As of June 14, Etihad will operate a two-class Airbus A320 three times a week between Abu Dhabi and Larnaca, configured to carry 140 passengers with 20 seats in business class and 120 in economy class.
