Cyprus Consumer Price Index for April increases

The Consumer Price Index for April 2009 has increased by 0,71 units or 0,65% to 110,07 units compared to 109,36 in March 2009, an official press release said here Monday.

The reason for the rise is due to the increase in the price of clothing and footwear as well as petroleum products.

The price of certain fresh vegetables and fruit, potatoes and electricity has lowered, the statement added.

The rate of increase of the Index and, therefore, the rate of inflation for April 2009 fell to 0,7% compared to 1,1% in March 2009 and 4,6% in April 2008.

For the period January-April 2009 the CPI recorded an increase of 0,9% compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
