Cypriot MP elected PACE Vice-President

Christos Pourgourides, a member of Cyprus House of Representatives was elected today in Strasbourg Vice-President for Cyprus of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

Pourgourides is a Democratic Rally’s (DISY) Member of the House of Representatives and Member of the European People’s Party in the CoE.

PACE reelected during its Winter Session on January 26, 2009, its President and elected 20 Vice-Presidents. The seat of Vice-President in respect of Cyprus remained vacant.

On January 26, Lluis Maria de Puig was re-elected President. PACE also elected its Vice-Presidents: Gudfinna S. Bjarnadottir from Iceland, Mevlut Cavusoglu from Turkey, Anna Curdova from Czech Republic, Davit Harutyunyan from Armenia, Andres Herkel from Estonia, Joachim Horster from Germany, Mladen Ivanic from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Danuta Jazlowiecka from Poland, Michael Aastrup Jensen from Denmark, Konstantin Kosachev from Russian Federation, Juan Fernando Lopez Aguilar from Spain, Younal Loutfi from Bulgaria, Frano Matusic from Croatia, Jean-Claude Mignon from France, John Prescott from United Kingdom, Samad Seyidov from Azerbaijjan, Luigi Vitali from Italy, Paul Wille from Belgium and Gisela Wurm from Austria.
