Harmonised inflation drops to 0.9% in January

The EU-harmonised consumer price inflation rate dropped to 0.9% over the year earlier in January 2009, having recorded an increase of 1.8% in December and 4.1% in January 2008.
The consumer price inflation rate in January was 1.1%.
The biggest increase was recorded in the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which rose by 9.9% year on year. By contrast, transport prices fell by 9.3% year on year.
