UN Security Council Sanctions Committee is expected to respond on Friday to the Republic of Cyprus' request for an advice on the issue of the Cypriot-flagged ship ''Monchegorsk.''

It has been alleged that the ship, which originated from Iran, was carrying arms and it was forced by a US military vessel to dock at Limassol port to have its cargo inspected, in order to establish whether there has been a breach of UN Security Council sanctions, as claimed.

According to a UN official, the Japanese presidency of the Sanctions Committee has been examining the report on the findings of the inspections of the cargo of ship and is preparing its response.

The Japanese presidency has not yet decided whether the Committee will convene or the Presidency will prepare the replying letter and will receive in writing the approval of each of its members.
