Hundreds of flights to and from Greece will be grounded on Wednesday during rolling strikes by air traffic controllers, their union said in a statement.

Air traffic controllers will hold four separate three-hour stoppages throughout the day starting from 4:00 am (02:00 GMT) and ending at 22:30 on Wednesday during the final shift, the Air Traffic Association of Greece said.

Earlier this week, the union said it would go ahead with a 24-hour strike as part of national stoppages by the country's public sector umbrella union (ADEDY), but Greek courts ruled that action illegal.

Other ADEDY employees will walk off the job for three hours on Wednesday, protesting government policies.
