Wise talk from Cyprus Euro MP Matsakis

This year’s elections for EuroMPs will be held in all EU members states between June 4 and 7, with the Cypriots expected to go to the polls on June 7.
But as that day coincides with the Pentecost (Kataklysmos) holiday, political parties are afraid the Cyprus vote will result in a poor turnout, possibly lower than the 71% recorded in 2004 when six EuroMPs were elected from Cyprus.
In order to help resolve this problem, Marios Matsakis has suggested that as civil servants are supposed to be working all day on Thursday, June 4, then that day be declared a school holiday and elections take place on that date.
This way, Matsakis said, the state (and taxpayer) would save at least 2-3 mln euros in overtime paid to civil servants stationed at election centres.
