With work well underway to prepare for the 2009 Cyprus Rally, organisers have announced that a Service Park will be created, and work on the Park will be overseen by two local construction companies.

The Rally will be held between the 13 – 15 March. It will be a mixed surface event (Day 1 will be competed on asphalt; Day 2 & 3 will be on gravel) and it will also be one of 4 events rewarding points for the 2009 Junior and Production WRC championships.

This year marks the return of the Cyprus Rally to the FIA World Rally Championship.

According to a press release issued Wednesday by the Cyprus Rally Press Office, the heart of the rally, the Service Park is where the cars – and crews – receive care and attention between stages, adding that for the Cyprus Rally, it will be an extensive facility based near the sea in the Germasogeia area of Limassol.

Working in cooperation with the Municipality of Germasogeia, the two companies will transform what is now just an open area into a fully operational rally facility which will attract fans form all over the globe, the press release says.

It also says that during an event, the Service Park is not only a great place to catch a glimpse of the world’s top drivers, it’s also fun to watch the team mechanics working against the clock to ready the cars for the next round of special stages.
