The Minister of Finance Charilaos Stavrakis announced the construction and renovation of 30 elementary schools across Cyprus, which will provide some contribution to the declining local construction sector.
The Minister stated that the construction of the Paphos – Polis Chrysohous highway, which will cost around EUR 200 mln will commence immediately after the signing of contracts in February 2009.
“Paphos is our first priority since the region has been hardest hit as a result of the decline in property purchases by foreigners and we need to implement measures to help the unemployed.”
Stavrakis emphasized the government’s intention to speed up its development projects included in the 2009 State Budget, stressing that the government aims to increase its Budget by 15% or EUR 150 mln.
