Chicken prices up 9.4%, milk up 19.3% in Q3

The production of cows’ milk for August decreased to 11,710 tonnes from 11,960 tonnes in the previous month. Compared to the same month of the previous year, however, it increased by 4.18%.
Milk products produced in June reached 6,420 tonnes of drinking milk, 300 tonnes of cream, 510 tonnes of acidified milk, 10 tonnes of butter and 90 tonnes of cheese from cow’s milk.
Compared to the same month of the previous year, cattle slaughters fell by 6.18%, pigs by 6.55%, sheep by 0.88%, goats by 4.75% and poultry by 3.93%.

Food prices

The Statistical Service has also produced price figures for a range of food types.
The producer price index for fruits was 209, the same level as the previous month. Compared to the corresponding month of 2007, the index recorded an increase of 7.2%.
The producer price index of pork meat for September increased to 147 from 146 in the previous month. The index decreased by 0.5% in the third quarter of 2008 compared to the respective quarter of 2007.
The producer price index of chicken meat for September was 152, the same level as the previous month. In the third quarter of 2008 the producer price index of chicken meat showed an increase of 9.4% compared to the third quarter of 2007.
The producer price index of cow’s milk for September increased to 167 from 158 in the previous month. The index in the third quarter of 2008, increased by 19.3% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2007.
The producer price index of fresh vegetables increased to 220 in September from 170 in the previous month. The index increased by 1.62% in the third quarter of 2008 compared to the respective quarter of 2007.
The producer price index of tomatoes for September increased to 246 from 155 in August. In the third quarter of 2008 the producer price index of tomatoes decreased by 9.2% compared to the third quarter of 2007.
The producer price index of cucumbers for September increased to 437 compared to 293 in the previous month. In the third quarter of 2008, the index recorded an important increased by 91.6% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2007.
