Anorthosis FC of Famagusta has secured an historic draw against Internationale Milan, in the Champions League Matchday 4.

Playing in Nicosia’s GSP stadium, Anorthosis, which defeated Athens Panathinaikos FC with 3-1 in Champions League Group B Matchday 2 and draw against Werder Bremen in Germany in Matchday 1, has now five points and follows the Italian team in the group table.

Athens Panathinaikos is in the third position of the Group with 4 points, after defeating yesterday with 3-0 Werder Bremen in Germany. The German team lies last with 2 points.

Mario Balotelli gave Inter an early lead in 13’, although a Nicolas Burdisso slip allowed Cedric Bardon to level in 31’. Marco Materazzi put Inter ahead again in 44’, but Georgios Panagi scored more by luck than judgment to equalise again before half-time.

Nikolaos Frousos' goal five minutes into the second half seemed to have given Anorthosis a memorable victory. Julio Cruz, ten minutes before the end of the game, denied Anorthosis Famagusta FC victory.

Timour Ketspaya’s team, Anorthosis, will face Werder Bremen in the group stage Matchday 5 on November 26, in Nicosia.

Anorthosis, a football club from the Turkish occupied town of Famagusta, on the east, is the first Cypriot team to have qualified for the Champions League.
