Cyprus Defence Minister to attend celebrations in Greece

Cypriot Minister of Defence Costas Papacostas will be visiting Thessaloniki, Greece’s second largest city, from 25 to 28 October to attend celebrations marking Greece’s resistance to the Axis forces, in 1940.

During his four-day visit, Papacostas will attend a church service in the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias and Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis. He will then watch the military parade.

The Minister will be the main speaker at an event in honor of Cypriots who fought during World War II in Greece.

On Tuesday October 28, Papacostas will travel to Vienna accompanied by officials from the Defense Ministry and the National Guard General Staff.

The following day, the Minister will announce the destruction of surface to air missiles, owned by the National Guard, in the framework of the joint meeting of the Permanent Council and the Forum of «Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe»(OSCE).
