The Bank of Cyprus (BOC) will host on May 14-16 the 2009 the European Association for Banking History (EABH) Conference, entitled ''the Critical Function of History in Banking and Finance.''

A press release issued by the BOC notes that the Conference will coincide with the inauguration of the Bank's historical archives centre in the Bank's first branch in the centre of Nicosia. The Conference will feature committee meetings and seminars, while among the personalities to attend the conference will be the EABH Chairman and European Central Bank President Jean Claude Trichet.

The EABH was founded in November 1990 as a forum for research into banking history and within a short time it had developed into an internationally recognised organisation, highly respected for its work in the field of banking history and archives. In recognition of its contribution to promoting banking history, the Association was awarded the European Culture Prize in 2001.

The EABH aims to promote dialogue between European bankers and financiers, academics and archivists and providing a network for the exchange of ideas and experiences within the interrelated fields of banking and financial history.
