Cypriot citizens advised to avoid visiting Thailand

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on all Cypriots wishing to visit Thailand to postpone their journey unless there is a serious reason.

Following a previous press release, the Ministry informs citizens that the Thai government on September 2 declared a state of emergency in the capital, Bangkok.

''The situation in the country remains unsettled and there is a possibility that the political instability could deteriorate,'' it says.

The Ministry remains in constant communication with the High Commissioner of the Republic in New Delhi, who is also accredited to Thailand.

Furthermore, the Ministry calls on all Cypriots wishing to visit Thailand to postpone their journey unless there is a serious reason. For further information they can contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 99660129.

Cypriot citizens who are already in Thailand are kindly requested to give their residence details in Thailand to the Honorary Consul of Cyprus in Bangkok at 00662 2618408, 00662 2618409, 00662 9972012/13 (home) and 00661 6324888 (mobile).

Cypriots in Thailand are advised to be very cautious during their movements, particularly in the capital which is the centre of the political crisis.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs closely follows developments and will issue a new press release when it deems it necessary.
