Motorola, Inc. announced that Swisscom’s Hospitality Services subsidiary has signed a distribution agreement to deploy mT2a PowerBroadband system in partner hotels across Europe and North America. The mT2a has already been field-proven by Swisscom in more than 18,000 guestrooms across 10 countries due to its ability to maximize the communications experience of hotel guests while minimizing considerably the operation costs.

“Motorola’s new mT2a system is now being deployed across European and North American hotels for advanced guest services,” said Greg Ioffe, general manager of Motorola’s Private Broadband Networks group, “and together with Swisscom we look forward to bringing innovative broadband services to hotels that will include IPTV, HDTV, downloadable movies, personalized and localized information, and targeted advertising.”

The m2 Wallplate directly snaps on over existing telephone jacks in hotel guestrooms. No additional wiring or rewiring is required. All power and broadband modules are contained within the small Wallplate eliminating the requirement for separate broadband modems and power supplies. Hotels especially like the reduced clutter and clean appearance of the “no box” solution.

The mT2a Master Switch provides unprecedented performance to each endpoint. Delivering over 50 Mbps of bandwidth to each wallplate with support for application-level QoS and VLANs, the system has been designed to handle a “quad play” of converged services such as high-speed Internet access, high definition IPTV streams, voice-over-IP phones, and Wi-Fi access points — all over a single in-building telephone line.
