Cyprus Inflation at 4.9% in February 2008

Inflation in Cyprus reached 4.9% in February 2008, compared to 1.5% recorded in February 2007. According to figures released by the Cyprus statistical service (CyStat), for the period January-February 2008, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded an increase of 4.6% compared to the corresponding period of 2007.
The CPI for February 2008, increased by 0.53 units or 0.50% to 107.11 units compared to 106.58 in January 2008.
This is mainly due to increases in the prices of certain fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and electricity.
The rate of increase of the Index and therefore the rate of inflation for February 2008 was 4.9% compared to 4.3% in January 2008 and 1.5% in February 2007.
