Inflation increases by 4.1% in January 2008

The rate of inflation in January 2008 reached 4.1% by comparison to the corresponding month of 2007, according to the latest data released here today by the Cyprus Statistical Service (SyStat).

CyStat announced that the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices for the period February 2007 – January 2008 recorded an increase of 2.4%.

The increase recorded in January is mainly attributed to transportation (8.4%), housing, water, electricity and gas (8.3%) and health (7.5%).

The only category, which showed a decrease of consumer prices, was that of clothing and footwear (-1.2%).
