Cyprus beer consumption up 5% in 2007

Soft drinks up 4.7%

 

Consumption of locally produced beer in Cyprus rose by 5% in 2007 to 38.5 mln litres, compared with 36.8 mln litres in 2006 according to the latest data from the Statistical Service.

This is equivalent to a modest 0.9 litres per inhabitant per week. However, once, the 2.4 million tourists are added, it is less than a quarter of a litre per person per week.

Exports of beer in the same period fell by 9.2% to 1.1 mln litres, compared with 1.3 mln in 2006.

Local consumption of soft drinks in the same period rose by 4.6% to 58.1 mln litres. Exports of soft drinks are only small in volume, at 22,729 litres in 2007, a drop of 81.1% compared with 2006. 

Total local consumption and exports of soft drinks combined amounted to 58.2 mln litres in 2007.
