The number of motor vehicle registrations in Cyprus reached 5,344 in October 2007, some 120% higher than the 2,433 registered in October 2006—a month before the big tax cut which has propelled ca purchases this year.

Private saloon car registrations rose by 181% over the year earlier to reach 4,162 in October, while light goods vehicles rose by 26% to 455.

For the whole of the period January-October, the total number of motor vehicle registrations reached 55,859, marking a rise of 38% compared with the same period of 2006.

Registrations of private saloons rose by 44.4% to 41,628, from 28,824 in January – October 2006.

Figures may slacken off from November, as the impact of the tax increase fades.
