Cyprus trade deficit up 13% y/y in Jan-Sep

On the basis of preliminary estimates for foreign trade in September 2007, the trade deficit in January-September rose by 13% year on year to reach CYP 2.18 bln, compared with CYP 1.95 bln in January-September 2006.

Total imports/ arrivals in September amounted to CYP 292.6 mln, of which CYP 201.3 mln were arrivals from other member states of the EU and CYP 91.3 mln imports from third countries.

Total exports/dispatches in the same period amounted to a preliminary CYP 47.9 mln, of which CYP 31.8 mln were dispatches to other member states of the EU and CYP 16.1 mln exports to third countries.

 

Revised data for August

 

The Statistical Service also announced revised data for August.

Total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other member states) in January-August 2007 amounted to CYP 2,362.9 mln (CYP 2.4 bln) compared with CYP 2,137.1 mln in January-August 2006.

Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other member states) in January-August 2007 reached CYP 430.6 mln compared with CYP 439.8 mln in January-August 2006.

The trade deficit was CYP 1,932.3 mln (CYP 1.9 bln) in January-August 2007 compared with CYP 1,697.3 mln in January-August 2006.

During August 2007 total imports/arrivals (covering total imports from third countries and arrivals from other member states) were valued at CYP 304.9 mln.

Total exports/dispatches (covering total exports to third countries and dispatches to other member states), including stores and provisions, in August 2007 amounted to CYP 44.6 mln.

Εxports/dispatches of domestically produced goods, including stores and provisions, were CYP 17.2 mln and exports/dispatches of foreign goods, including stores and provisions, CYP 27.4 mln.
