Cyprus air traffic declines in July – August 2007

A reduction in aircraft traffic was recorded at Larnaca and Paphos airports during July and August 2007, compared with the corresponding period last year.

An official press release issued here said that in July this year aircraft traffic at Larnaca International Airport, on the south coast, dropped by 5.8% and cargo traffic by 16.7%, while passenger traffic increased by 1.6%.

At Paphos airport, on the western coast, during the same month aircraft traffic dropped by 4.4% and passenger traffic by 5.3%, while cargo traffic rose by 77.3%.

In August 2007, a 4.9% reduction in aircraft traffic was recorded at Larnaca airport and a 51.0% drop in cargo traffic, while there was an increase of 12.1% in passenger traffic.

A reduction in aircraft traffic by 17.4% was recorded during the same month at Paphos airport, in addition to a reduction in passenger traffic by 8.1%, while cargo traffic increased by 53.3%.

Larnaca is the country’s busiest airport, handling nearly two million passengers annually. Paphos airport handles mainly charter airline traffic.
