Greece-Cyprus initial Memorandum of Cooperation on police issues

Greek Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Cyprus Justice and Public Order Minister Sophoclis Sophocleous have initialed a Memorandum of Cooperation on Police issues.

During a meeting they had here Monday, the two Ministers discussed cooperation between Greece and Cyprus on issues of public order and equality between women and men.

The Memorandum will be signed in Nicosia in November.

The agreement relating to the Memorandum exists since 1993, it was ratified in 1997 and has been in force since 1998.

Pavlopoulos said that cooperation has born fruit but it was time to enhance it, taking into consideration the acquis communautaire.

Sophocleous said that a new step is being made to strengthen relations in a constructive and productive manner.
