Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas will hold an internet chat on Monday 15 October to coincide with the first international Blog Action Day, which is dedicated to the environment. The chat will take place between 1400 and 1700 on the Commissioner’s blog site and will be conducted in English, French, German and Greek.

Commissioner Dimas said: “International Blog Action Day is an excellent initiative that will help to raise public awareness of the serious environmental challenges we face and to involve citizens in Europe and the rest of the world in contributing to solutions. This is also the aim of my blog. I look forward to a lively internet chat with a large number of participants.”

International Blog Action Day is seeking to achieve mass participation in addressing environmental problems by getting bloggers around the world to post entries on environmental issues that day. More than 10,800 blog sites with a combined audience of over 8.5 million readers have already registered for the event.

Europe is thought to be home to some 300 million internet users at present, and Europa, the Commission’s website, is now the largest public website in the world.
